About Everware-CBDI
Everware-CBDI is the result of the May 2006 merger of Everware, a U.S.
firm specializing in Enterprise Architecture, Service Oriented
Architecture (SOA), and legacy transformations to SOA, with CBDI Forum,
a U.K. firm focused on accelerating the successful adoption of Service
Oriented Architecture best practices through independent consulting,
education and a global knowledgebase.
A Shared History
In the early 1990's we recognized the potential for better-structured
software and reuse. Initially we were evangelists and practitioners in
the emerging field of software components at a time when there was
widespread misunderstanding of basic component and reuse concepts. Many
of us were on the front lines creating the architectural, technical,
and managerial best practices for deploying business applications which
consisted of large-grained, reusable software components.
In the late 1990's, CBDI Forum first wrote reports on service-based
concepts and federated architectures. At that time, we were convinced
that the evolutionary component story was not yet finished, and that
emerging technologies combined with the enhancement and specialization
of the interface would allow automation of many basic software
processes. Today everyone refers to this approach as SOA, and the
enhanced interfaces as web services.
At the same time, we were delivering enterprise business applications
using component based development (CBD) approaches to dramatically
reduce time and cost to market. We were an early adopter of the
component capability within Java/J2EE (now Java EE) and developed a
suite of service-based components and generators to accelerate
development using industry standard patterns and frameworks.
During the last few years, both Everware and CBDI Forum have been
innovators of architectures and practices using all aspects of
service-based concepts, technologies and techniques. We believe these
ideas are the foundation of higher-quality agile applications that
result in improved support of business needs.
A Shared Vision
With the merger, Everware-CBDI is combining and expanding our
capability to make the vision of SOA a reality. To us, SOA offers a
real opportunity to fundamentally change the way business and
technology work together and it offers the only credible response to
modernizing the massive portfolio of legacy applications that are
consuming approximately 80% of the IT budget. Implementing SOA across
an enterprise is hard work, but done properly produces significant
investment returns and greater business flexibility for years to come.
